ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION TO SUPPORT LŌKAHI COWORKS’ EMPOWERING RURAL SMALL BUSINESSES PROGRAM.
WHEREAS, ChangeMakers Community Econcomic Develpment Corporation, DBA ChangeMarkers Hawaiʻi is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to champion economic equity and justice
by promoting economic development that engages communities, creates access to financial resources, and supports passionate professionals; and
WHEREAS, ChangeMakers Hawaiʻi offers programs that help empower people to create economic stability and build generational wealth, create and nurture businesses through workforce development
programs, and partner with local, national, and international organizations to address community needs; and
WHEREAS, ChangeMakers Hawaiʻi is partnering with Lōkahi CoWorks for its Empowering Rural Small Businesses Program; and
WHEREAS, Lōkahi CoWorks is hosting a 6-month program to support 30 rural small business owners across Puna and its surrounding rural communities; and
WHEREAS, ChangeMakers Hawaiʻi is requesting funds to defray the cost of contracted services, workshop services, guest speaker fees, and administration services; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Research and Development supports the development of a local economy that is diverse, stable, and in balance with Hawaiʻi’s ecology, community character, and
cultural heritage; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(C) of the Hawai‘i County Code, Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via resolution identifying
the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I that Contingency Relief funds from Council District 5 will be appropriated to the Department of Research and Development to provide
a grant to ChangeMakers Hawaiʻi to support Lōkahi CoWorks’ Empowering Rural Small Businesses Program.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai‘i hereby transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:
