REPORT OF THE
COMMITTEE ON FINANCE
Re: Comm. No. 292/Res. No. 182-25
Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution No. 182-25, reports as follows:
Resolution No. 182-25, transmitted by Finance Director Diane Nakagawa via Communication
No. 292, dated May 2, 2025, authorizes the Mayor to enter into an agreement with the University of
Hawaii, Hawaii Housing Finance and Development Corporation.
This resolution allows for the receipt of $1,977,568 of federally -derived funds to be used towards the
Kuakini Heights Affordable Housing Project.
Housing Administrator Kehaulani Costa was present and provided background on this measure.
Committee Members Ashley L. Kierkiewicz and Rebecca Villegas commented in support.
Committee Member Jenn Kagiwada asked if all their federal funding was secure and there was no plan
for it to be taken back by the government. Ms. Costa stated that she was unaware of any plans for the
government to take this funding back.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Resolution No. 182-25, and
recommends its adoption.
