RE: Hawaii County Council Testimony. In favor of county bill (federal funds), in
granting funds to Hawaii County Police Department for eradication of
marijuana.
I would like to testify in favor of the county bill granting funds to Hawaii County Police
Department for the eradication of marijuana. Kea'au Middle School data generated by the
Hawaii Informed Prevention System indicated that in 1999, our number of marijuana
offenses were higher than those reported by the state.
The 1998 Hawaii Student Alcohol and Drug Use Study Report by the State Department
of Health measured a number of risk factors attributed to drug use and abuse. The
exposure to community substance use is considered a risk factor for drug use and abuse.
As principal, I am deeply concerned about our students and the availability, the
accessibility and the use of marijuana. I ask for your support regarding the bill that will grant
funding to our Police Department.
