RESOLUTION NO.
A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE HAWAI`I
WILDFIRE MANAGEMENT ORGANIZATION FOR THE PURCHASE OF THE FIRE
ASIDE PROGRAM.
WHEREAS, Hawaii County currently experiences an elevated risk of wildfires, given
our changing environment; and
WHEREAS, Hawaii Wildfire Management Organization (HWMO) is a 501(c)(3)
nonprofit organization based in Waimea; and
WHEREAS, Fire Aside is a community wildfire resilience program delivered through a
software platform, offering tools such as its Defensible Space Inspection product and
personalized risk reports to help residents and agencies take proactive steps in reducing wildfire
risks; and
WHEREAS, HWMO serves as a hub of wildfire mitigation, prevention, and proactive
preparedness; and
WHEREAS, HWMO is committed to providing communities with resources, data, and
advocacy tools through the purchase of the Fire Aside program; and
WHEREAS, one of the goals of the Hawaii Fire Department is to protect and preserve
life, property, and the environment, striving for community safety; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawaii County Code,
Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via
resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event,
activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now,
therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI`I that
Contingency Relief funds from Council District 9 will be appropriated to the Hawaii Fire
Department to provide a grant to the Hawaii Wildfire Management Organization to purchase the
Fire Aside program
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawaii hereby
transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the Chief of the Hawaii Fire Department and Director of Finance, and that the
Director of Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the
terms of this resolution.
