Subject: RE: Opposing Bill Resolution 140-25 awarding $50,000 in grant funds to Aloha Animal
Alliance Hawai'i for their cat spay and neuter initiatives, specifically their Trap -Neuter -
Return -Manage (TNRM) program.
Aloha,
I am a resident of Hawai'i Island, residing in the north Kohala area. I'm writing to oppose the use of public
funds to fund ANY groups implementing TNRM ("Trap -Neuter -Release -Manage") of feral cats hereon
Hawai'i Island, a practice which multiple studies— in Hawai'i and elsewhere— have shown to be
ineffective and actually harmful to the individual feral cats as well as other wildlife (including native
Hawaiian protected species). As an animal lover and a resident also very concerned about the harm
done by our feral cat population, I am among the majority of Hawai'i residents who support reducing feral
cat numbers through permanent removal. There are ways to do so humanely; TNRM is not it.
Please do the right thing and DO NOT fund TNRM programs on our island. Please do not pass Bill
Resolution 140-25. If you must fund Aloha Animal Alliance, please ensure that they agree to NOT
implement Trap -Neuter -Return programs --programs which are in potential violation of the
Endangered Species Act. - (-;
