Home My WebLink AboutRES 181 Draft 02 2024-2026COUNTY OF HAWAII STATE OF HAWAI`I RESOLUTION NO. :18:1 25 (DRAFT 2) A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO ENTER INTO AN AGREEMENT WITH AND PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE UNIVERSITY OF HAWAI`I OFFICE OF RESEARCH SERVICES. WHEREAS, the Department of Research and Development wishes to enter into an agreement with the University of Hawaii, Office of Research Services; and WHEREAS, this agreement is to provide $125,000 to the University of Hawaii for the Pacific Aquaculture and Coastal Resource Center (PACRC); and WHEREAS, these funds will allow PACRC to secure permits and conduct preliminary research and analyses for an aquaculture project in Hilo Bay; and WHEREAS, Section 2-139(a)(3)(B) of the Hawaii County Code 1983 (2016 Edition, as amended), requires that grant awards in excess of $25,000 to organizations that do not qualify as nonprofit organizations shall specifically identify the purpose for which the funds shall be used in a resolution; and WHEREAS, Hawaii Revised Statutes, Section 46-7, requires that County departments obtain the consent of the council to enter into agreements with the federal or state governments respecting action to be taken pursuant to any of the powers granted by law to furnish, expend, and receive any funds or other assistance in connection with projects being or to be undertaken pursuant to those powers; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI`I, in accordance with section 46-7, Hawaii Revised Statutes, that the Mayor of the County of Hawaii is authorized to execute, on behalf of the County, an agreement and related documents with the University of Hawai'i, Office of Research Services to fund their proposal as indicated above. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that, in accordance with Section 2- 139(a)(3)(B) of the Hawai'i County Code 1983 (2016 Edition, as amended), the Council hereby authorizes the issuance of a grant to the University of Hawaii, Office of Research Services in the amount of$125,000. BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk of the County of Hawaii shall transmit copies of this resolution to the Office of Management, the Finance Department, and the Department of Research and Development.
