159.41 to amend Bill
No. 32, Draft
2. I fully
support this amendment
for funding
the
initial engineering
of Waikoloa's
second arterial
road.
While we are relatively new residents to the
Village, we would like to be comfortable in
knowing that there is a long term plan to ensure
that our Village does not suffer the same fate as
Lahaina.
One of the things that was responsible for great
loss of life in the Lahaina incident was the
inability for people to effectively -evacuate the
area in a reasonable amount of time. Waikoloa
Village is in a bad way in regards to this while
having a wildfire risk equivalent to Lahaina. We
only have one way in and the same way out. The
upper part of the Village has no direct way to
exit except by the same way in. If heaven forbid
a fire were to consume the center of the Village,
those living north of that event have very few
options other than to pray they do not get burned
out by a shift in wind direction.

We can and should do better for the residents of
the Village. A through road NEEDS to be built
for the Village as soon as possible.
