Subject: Support for Communication 159.41, Bill #32, Draft 2
Aloha Council Members,
My name is Jennifer Halley, I'm a full time resident and homeowner for 20 years in Waikoloa Village and I am asking you
to support Communication 159.41 to amend Bill #32, Draft 2 to fund initial engineering or Waikoloa's second arterial
road. <
I would like to share some numbers with you.
60 minutes: is how long it took to evacuate from Malina Street to Waikoloa Road, a distance of only 2 miles, in bumper to
bumper cars moving mere inches at a time in the 8/1/25 evacuation.
$807.5 million dollars: is how much House Bill 1001 enacted to fund the settlement of claims related to the Maui
wildfires.
115 people: are how many precious souls lost their lives in the Maui wildfires.
Council Members and Committee Members, please send a clear message to Waikoloa Village residents that our lives are
worth more to the County of Hawaii alive because we were able to safely evacuate a fire, instead of our lives being
assigned a dollar amount upon our death, as reflected in House Bill 1001.
I implore you, please send a clear message to Mayor Alameda that amending the county's budget to conduct' c=
engineering, the first step in getting a second arterial road for Waikoloa, is of utmost priority!
Please consider casting your vote as if your lives depend on it, I'm certain my life does.
Thank you for you time and consideration.
Mahalo,
Jennifer Halley
