Subject: Waikoloa Second Road
Aloha council members:
I'm a 40 year resident and have survived 3 major brush fire evacuations in Waikoloa Village. To say they
were terrifying was an understatement.
During each and every evacuation, I was unable to get out of the village.
During the first fire the intersection was on fire and it was impossible to leave.
The last 2 fire evacuations were impossible as Paniolo Road was basically a parking lot. Thousands of
cars feeding into one road.
Now that I'm 40 yrs older and taking care of an elder parent with serious mobility issues.
Any evacuation would be timely and exhausting process.
The population in the village has grown exponentially since I moved here in 1987.
The second road has been talked about for decades and even with the villages massive growth no
additional road has ever been built.
I truly live in fear that Waikoloa Village will be the next Lahina, with a much higher mortality rate.
Please make a second road for Waikoloa a major priority. The village continues to grow and thousands of
families, children and Kapuna deserve a chance to evacuate.
