Subject: second exit road for Waikoloa Village
As a 23 year resident of Waikoloa Village, I am very fearful of wildfires.
There have been 2 evacuations during my years here in Waikoloa and
most Likely there will be more as the village is very dry and often
subject to high winds (the sure formula for raging fires). The village is
also growing rapidly and with the increased population, it will be even
more difficult to get out of danger. During the recent fires in Lahaina,
there were also blazes just to the north. of the village in the resort area
of Mauna Kea Hotel and in the Kohala Ranches area. Please help us
get a second road out as soon as possible as our current roads are
not enough to handle evacuation traffic and should a road be closed
by jumping flames as happened previously, it could be deadly.
