Aloha Chair and Members of the Council,

As 10 year island residents and active members in Waikoloa Village, we are making our voices
heard in"m
support of Councilman Hustace Communication 159.41 to amend Bill No. 32, Draft 2.
After all the communication with Mayor Alameda, he has decided our town's safety should not be a priority or
this would have received funding - simple as that.
We fully support this amendment for funding the initial engineering of Waikoloa's second arterial road and
would like to thank James Hustace for doing everything he can to address this major problem we all face.
If this governing body is not able to come up with the funds to start the process now ... what makes any of us
believe there will be money for this later. We all know that prices of things will never go down and everything is
becoming outrageously expensive. What is the cost to do it now vs. later vs. wait until the town burns to the
ground?
Fire Chief Todd's own words were firebreaks are basically worthless and they will not be able to stop a wildfire
from decimating our community - Awesome...
Waikoloa Village is one of the fastest -growing communities on the Big Island. We drove by the new workforce
development housing the other day by Kamakoa Park and are seeing lots of progress. THOUSANDS of new
residents will move to this area in the immediate future bringing thousands of more vehicles and traffic all at
the VERY end of the largest cul de sac in the country.
I have yet to hear any convincing argument as to why our community should have to rely on a single road in an
emergency. Especially not a community as vulnerable to a major wildfire disaster as Waikoloa Village. Every
single one of you knows that in 2021, the largest wildfire in the history of the state burned within 3 miles. This is
not a subjective opinion but a very real danger to the lives in our community.
Your'yes' vote will make a positive impact on all of us - I'm not sure of a better use of our tax payer dollars
than to save lives. Spending our money on this so we can finally move forward in securing the second road
that our community has needed for years is a no brainer and everyone I talk to is pretty pissed off that the
Mayor ignored us.
We as a community are counting on you to vote `yes' and support your fellow BI residents on this
amendment. We know a new road is not going to happen right away but if we cannot even get the process
started then WTF!? Be creative and find the needed money.
Thank you for what you do but our voices are being ignored and that fact is unacceptable.
