Aloha Members of the Hawaii County Council
I'm Naomi Melamed, and I'm the Big Island Leader for Safe Tech Hawaii. I'm here to show my strong
support for Bill 24 and to ask you to approve it just as it is. This bill is a big" step in making sure our
community stays connected while keeping our residents desires in mind around the cessation of
unnecessary, poorly executed or unsightly proliferation of wireless infrastructure.
Why Connectivity and Safety Matter?
Bill 24 is a well -thought-out plan that understands how important telecommunications are in our
everyday lives, but also puts a priority on public well-being and safety. It even makes sure that critical
services like police, fire, and ambulance operations aren't affected by giving them certain exemptions.
This means our emergency services can keep doing their jobs without any hiccups.
Keeping Our Community Safe
A big part of the bill is the 600-foot setback from homes and schools. This rule is there to protect our
kids and families by cutting down on any potential disruptions in our community from residences
being too close to wireless towers and antennas. It's a smart step that shows we care about the
aesthetics, property values and well being of Hawaii's residents.
A Must -Have to Stop Unchecked Growth
Without this ordinance, we're kind of in a free-for-all when it comes to wireless facilities. There aren't
enough rules to stop endless and possibly harmful growth. Bill 24 gives us the guidelines we need to
make sure technology doesn't hurt our community's well-being. This is a step foreward from what we
had, which essentially was nothing.
Please Support Bill 24 As Is
To sum it up, Bill 24 does a great job of balancing better connectivity with keeping our community
safe. It's a well -thought-out ordinance that meets our society's needs while safegaurding our island
now and for future generations. I really urge you to approve Bill 24 as it is, recognizing the important
protections it offers and how much it will benefit us all.
