RE: Support for Amendment to Bill No. 31, Draft 3 proposed operating budget for fiscal year
2025-2026
I am writing in support of a new line item on food security to start a $2 million dollar fund in the
Mayor's proposed Operating Budget that could be used by various food distribution programs to
feed our Hawai'i Island communities.
In addition, I support an additional $4 million to support affordable housing on Hawai'i Island.
With the challenging times our state and our country are going through regarding the uncertainty
caused by tariffs and other recent developments, it seems like a smart move for the food and
housinng security of our local population.
