Council Testimony
Reject Bill 47
I strongly oppose Bill 47. While I understand the concerns about housing availability, this
legislation represents clear government overreach. Private property owners who use their
homes reasonably —as short-term rentals that comply with safety and tax obligations —
should not be subject to heavy-handed regulation. Multiple studies, including from urban
centers that have enacted similar measures, show that restricting short-term rentals does
not significantly increase long-term rental stock. Instead, it burdens responsible owners,
reduces visitor options, and harms local economies. I urge you to reject Bill 47 and seek
more balanced, data -driven approaches that respect property rights.
