AGAINST BILL 47
LEAVE US ALONE!
We have been a hosted vacation rental for many years. We pay our GE, and Transient Accomodation taxes, and recently
our property taxes have quadrupled. You're trying to squeeze us out through our wallets. My husband and I are seniors in
our 70's that depend on our TVR hosted income. Social Security Ila Security just isn't enough.
So we know that Heather Kimball doesn't work for the public. So, who does she work for? The only supporters of this
bill are the Kohala Coast Resort Association and the Hawaii Hotel Alliance. Groups that represent Hotels owned by
billionaire shareholders on the mainland.
Last year Hawaii County commissioned a study so we can better understand the potential impact of legislation like this
on local families. By rushing this bill forward without that information, Councilors Kimball and Kierkiewicz are showing
how much they hold a fact driven public process in contempt.
This bill is the first step in a process that is going to hurt a lot of local families. In fact, it is already driving people to
break up families, and leave the island.
The Hawaii County Council wants to award the tourism industry to the hotels. Locals won't be allowed to participate in
the future. It is an action being taken the guise of "affordable housing". which is ironic because after the Council has
taxed our industry to death and forced us to sell our homes to out-of-state buyers, and the telescopes have shut down,
and importers and mixers have stolen the coffee and mac nut industries, the only opportunity left will be real-estate
speculation ...... which will further drive up housing costs.
