Subject: RE: Bill 47: Hawaii County's Trojan Bill
Aloha,
Once again as an owner of one STVR, I feel as if we are under attack. Like many of our island
neighbors who own and manage hosted vacation rentals, we follow all of the rules. Yet it feels
as if we are being threatened again with punishment. We are already under siege from
policies from the federal and state governments —policies that make Hawaii less and less
attractive to international visitors (we have already had cancellations because they don't feel
welcome) and even to local visitors (an increased number of laws that gouge the tourists for
more and more money). Now you want STVR owners to pony up for more fees and punitive
fines. If your Bill 47 is truly simply about gathering information and not about carving out a
pathway to enforcement, then I would feel much more comfortable if this were stated directly
in the text of the bill. Otherwise you are cutting off the head of the goose who has been laying
golden eggs for many years. Tourism is still what drives the economy here, and tourists are
more and more choosing to go elsewhere. I really don't think this is what anyone wants.
Thanks for "listening."
