Regarding Draft Bill 47
Aloha,
My name is Malia Lindsey, and I am a disabled kupuna who rents the guest bedroom in my personal house to
short-term travellers. I want to say your timing for this change is awful. People are losing their jobs, costs of
goods are going up, property taxes and homeowner's insurance keep climbing, and there's no end in sight.
My only other income is about $900 in SSI, and without the little bit I get from renting out a bedroom (I have
only two bedrooms; the other I sleep in), I would need to sell my home. I live alone and have no other
financial help. I have no idea where I would go, but I would likely need to leave Hawai'i, where I grew up,
where all of my friends and family and memories are. To need to register just a little guest bedroom is
onerous, and opens up additional expenses that I cannot handle.
I am sure I am not the only one in this situation. I've already been priced off Maui, my one hanau. Please don't
pass this bill and cause me and others like myself to be completely priced out of our Hawaii home.
