Aloha,
am requesting the council shelves this bill. Bill 47 will see negative consequences Island wide. We, at KaiLokis
Restaurant and Bar, as you are aware, very remote, where 18 local residents work, rely on the short stays as short term
rentals send their visitors our way, and other local establishments as local spots to eat or shop. It assists in our ability to
stay open, as well as employ a sizeable amount of good people in an area where there is very little opportunity to find
employment. We also know that income lost to those who have short term rentals will add to the loss of monies
exchanging hands. It will be a domino effect and not in a good way.
Add to the reality of businesses like ours shaving staff, or being forced to close doors altogether, due to the loss of foot
traffic, the fees and fines proposed would cause serious financial pain to those offering STR.
This is a bad idea and it should not be passed until the financial impact is fully realized, and the impact places like us, and
others will see is realized and analyzed.
Mahalo for your reconsideration, and thought into this very complex issue.
