Subject: Opposition to Bill 47 — Protect Fairness & Community
Aloha Council Members,
I am writing to express my strong opposition to Bill 47, which would require hosted vacation rental owners to register
publicly before the economic impact study has been completed. I understand the stated intent, but I'm deeply concerned
about what this bill would enable if passed as -is.
As someone who has only recently become financially secure because of my hosted vacation rental, I believe this
proposed registry is premature and unfair. For the first time, I have a reliable way to support myself and look to the
future. Forcing us to register before the data is even available feels like putting the cart before the horse — and it puts
many of us at risk.
I know you may trust the current leadership to implement this fairly, but those leaders won't always be here. Laws must
be written for the long-term benefit of the community, not based on short-term promises or personal assurances.
I support:
Deferring Bill 47 until the economic study is complete and the real impact on our community can be
assessed.
• Adding enforceable amendments to codify protections for small, responsible operators like myself.
• A limited -time amnesty for those of us trying to comply in good faith.
• Clear interdepartmental guidance to ensure these rules are' applied consistently and fairly.
Please reconsider Bill 47 in its current form — and protect those of us who rely on our rentals for our livelihood.
