A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO ENTER INTO INTERGOVERNMENTAL AGREEMENT WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF HAWAIʻI AT HILO TO SUPPORT THEIR CONTINUED COOPERATION WITH THE HAWAIʻI POLICE DEPARTMENT
FOR THE FURTHER PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OF COUNTY OF HAWAIʻI POLICE DEPARTMENT OFFICERS.
WHEREAS, Hawaiʻi Revised Statutes Section 46-7 requires the County to obtain consent of the Council to enter into agreements with the federal or state governments respecting action to
be taken pursuant to any of the powers granted by law to furnish, expend, and receive any funds or other assistance in connection with projects being or to be undertaken pursuant to
those powers; and
WHEREAS, the Hawaiʻi Police Department (“HPD”) desires the ability to enter into an updated Memorandum of Understanding (attached hereto as Exhibit “A”) with the University of Hawai‘i
at Hilo for the benefit of Hawaiʻi County HPD officers to facilitate the successful admission and enrollment of HPD officers as students in the Bachelors of Arts Administration of
Justice Program at UH Hilo, with the goal of providing continued professional development for HPD police officers; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I that in accordance with Hawaiʻi Revised Statutes Section 46-7, the Mayor of the County of Hawaiʻi is authorized to execute, on
behalf of the County, an intergovernmental agreement with both State and Federal partners for the purpose of serving and protecting the County of Hawaiʻi.
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk of the County of Hawaiʻi shall transmit copies of this resolution to the Office of the Mayor, the Finance Department and the Hawaiʻi Police
Department.
