Strong Opposition to BIL060 - Protect Religious Freedom
Dear Hawaii County Council,
I am writing as a concerned citizen and Senior Pastor of Thy Word Ministries Faith Center of Hawaii to express
strong opposition to BIL060. I believe this bill infringes upon the First Amendment rights guaranteed to
religious organizations, particularly the freedom of religion and free expression.
The Constitution clearly protects the Church's autonomy in matters of doctrine, practice, and ministry. Any
legislation that imposes restrictions on how the Church operates —whether through speech, worship, hiring, or
charitable activities —undermines that sacred freedom. BIL060, as it stands, appears to place governmental
oversight or pressure where the Constitution forbids it: within the Church.
The government has a responsibility not to establish religion, but equally, not to prohibit its free exercise. I _
respectfully urge you to oppose BIL060 and instead support policies that affirm the vital role of faith,
