Subject: Testimony in Opposition to proposed Bill 060 an
ordinance amending Chapter25, Article 5, and Article 7 of the
Hawaii County Code 1983 (2016 edition, as amended), relating to
zooning district regulation for meeting facilities, churches,
temples, synagogues, and community buildings.
I am writing in opposition to proposed Bill 060 that would prohibit
churches from gathering before 8:00 AM and after 9:00 PM.
This bill attacks the First Amendment of the United States
Constitution which prohibits the government from restricting free
exercise of religion. In 1802, Thomas Jefferson created the term:
"The Wall of Separation between Church and State." This meant
the government would not interfere with one' right to practice his
religion.
