Subject: Bill 64 regarding director of public works qualifications
As a licensed engineer living in Hawaii county and for Hawaii county public works, I oppose the removal
of the requirement that the director hold a PE license.
This change opens both the county and public works staff to liability that should rest with the director
who ultimately has the authority to make engineering decisions that override engineering staff.
I cannot work in an environment where I may be overruled by an unlicensed director and be held liable
for those design decisions.
