Your Committee on Governmental Operations and External Affairs, to which was referred
Communication No. 363, reports as follows:
Communication No. 363, transmitted by Managing Director William V. Brilhante, Jr., dated
June 19, 2025, requests the Council's review and confirmation of the nomination of
Wayne T. Nishijima to the Veterans Advisory Committee.
Executive Assistant to the Mayor Micah Alameda was present in the Hilo Chambers to
introduce Mr. Nishijima, who was also present via remote technology, to the Committee.
Committee Member James Hustace asked Mr. Alameda to discuss with the Administration
about the Agriculture Advisory Committee based on Mr. Nishijima's extensive background. He
acknowledged his question was off topic for this Committee as he inquired about some of
Mr. Nishijima's history of active field projects. Mr. Nishijima replied that he didn't have any
active projects, as he has been retired since 2009. He mentioned he is a certified Master
Gardner.
Pursuant to Chapter 15, Article 7, Section 15-61 of the Hawaii County Code, members of the
Veterans Advisory Committee shall be appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the Council.
Your Committee on Governmental Operations and External Affairs is in accord with the
purpose and intent of Communication No. 363, and recommends confirmation of the
appointment of Wayne T. Nishijima to the Veterans Advisory Committee.
