Re: Nomination of Justin Canelas of Council District 6 to the Environmental Management
Commission.
Aloha Council Chair Inaba and Council Members,
I am pleased to nominate Mr. Justin Canelas of Council District 6 to the Environmental
Management Commission (EMC).
Originally from Massachusetts and raised in upstate New York, Mr. Canelas has been a valued
resident of Hawaii Island for the past five years. During that time, he has developed a deep
connection to the community and its environmental needs.
Mr. Canelas holds a Bachelor of Science in Public Affairs from Baruch College and an
Associate Degree in Liberal Arts & Sciences from Hudson Valley Community College. Currently,
he serves as Operations Director for Recycle Hawaii, where his dedication to promoting
sustainability and environmental stewardship is evident in his work. His commitment to a
cleaner and more sustainable Hawaii is apparent in the initiatives he champions, which aim to
protect our natural resources for future generations.
Mr. Canelas is eager to bring his expertise and passion for environmental issues to the EMC.
His understanding of sustainability challenges and his proactive approach will be invaluable to
the Commission.
If confirmed, Mr. Canelas term will end on January 31, 2028. If you have any questions, please
