JNSY OF h�Y <br />C <br />COUNTY OF HAWAII STATE OF HAWAI`I <br />OFHF� <br />RESOLUTION NO. 247 25 <br />A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br />AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br />DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE FEED HAWAII <br />DBA KOHALA FOOD HUB FOR EXPENSES RELATING TO THE NORTH KOHALA <br />FARM TO FAMILY PROJECT. <br />WHEREAS, the Feed Hawaii DBA Kohala Food Hub is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit <br />organization whose mission is to grow a sustainable regional food system by providing essential <br />services and resources for local food producers and increasing community access to fresh, <br />healthy food; and <br />WHEREAS, the North Kohala Farm to Family Project is a targeted food access initiative <br />designed to address persistent food insecurity and diet -related chronic health conditions among <br />low-income residents in the rural North Kohala community; and <br />WHEREAS, the project will serve approximately 200 individuals from 50 qualifying <br />households, who will receive free, locally grown produce bags on a bi-weekly basis over a four - <br />month period; and <br />WHEREAS, the project will improve access to fresh, nutritious food while strengthening <br />the local agricultural economy by supporting area farmers and building resilience within the <br />regional food system; and <br />WHEREAS, past Farm to Family projects have demonstrated positive health and <br />quality -of -life outcomes from regular access to fresh produce; and <br />WHEREAS, Feed Hawaii DBA Kohala Food Hub is requesting funds for the purchase <br />of local produce, packaging materials, fuel costs, staffing, and facility use, which will serve a <br />public purpose by benefiting, improving, or promoting the interests of the needs of the poor, <br />youth, the aged, those with physical or emotional disabilities, as well as public health and <br />welfare of the people and the environment; now, therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI`I that, in <br />accordance with section 2-139(a)(2)(C) of the Hawaii County Code 1983 (2016 Edition, as <br />amended), Contingency Relief funds from Council District 9 are hereby transferred to the <br />Department of Research and Development to provide a grant to Feed Hawaii DBA Kohala Food <br />Hub for the expenses and purposes identified in "Exhibit A," a copy of which is attached hereto <br />and incorporated herein by reference, in the following amount as set forth below: <br />
