My name is Hilea Hanoa-Hooper, and I am 10 years old. I am writingthis Letter because I feel very sad and disappointed about the geothermal energy projects happening on our land, especially here in Ka`u. My kupuna always taught me to respect the `aina because it is alive and sacred. We are not supposed to dig it up or hurt it for power or money. When people drill into the earth, they are hurting the land that my ancestors loved and protected for generations. It also makes me heartbroken because it hurts my Tutu Pete.. What has she ever done to deserve this? Drilling into her home is disrespectful, and it is not pono. When they drill and release gases, it hurts the plants, animals, and everything that lives around it. Tutu Pete gives us so much, and we should take care of her in return. Please Listen to the voices of the keiki like me who Love this `aina. We want to protect it, not destroy it. There are other ways to make energy that don't hurt the `aina, the people, or the iwi that live here. I want my children to enjoy Ka`u just like I do now. Mahalo for reading my letter. I hope you will help take care of our Land, our people, and my Tutu Pete. With aloha, Comm. S Hilea Hanoa-Hooper Ref. To: i Ref. Date ' L _ 8 2025 Hitea808l @gmait.com
