I'm writing as a long-time resident and active member of our community to respectfully
�-
urge you to reconsider the proposed ordinance that would make it illegal to feed feral cats
on county property.
For over 12 years, I have managed a small, stable colony of seven feral cats through a
responsible Trap -Neuter -Return (TNR) program. These cats are all spayed or neutered,
vaccinated, and monitored. The only way this effort has remained successful=and
humane —is through consistent feeding.
Regular feeding keeps feral cats from roaming'in search of food, which in turn reduces
their impact on wildlife, including endangered bird populations. Cutting off their food
supply would only force them to hunt and scavenge, worsening the very problems the
ordinance aims to fix.
TNR is a nationally recognized and proven method for managing community cat
populations. When supported with proper feeding and care, it leads to healthier animals,
fewer nuisance complaints, and smaller colonies over time.
I urge you to work with local caregivers and TNR advocates rather than penalize them.
We're part of the solution. Please don't criminalize compassion. TNR works, and it
deserves your support.
