It is cruel! Volunteers and rescue organizations have been providing a service for these lost souls without government support for decades. The TNR programs have been organized by said volunteers and rescue organizations. Veterinarians, their staff, local volunteers and community members have donated their time and services in order to assist in controlling the overpopulation of cats (and dogs) on the Big Island. Many of the cats in the colonies are actually family pets that have been trapped by neighbors and dumped at these colonies. Every effort at our disposal is being done to reunite these animals with their families. As for the rest of the animals, we can only pray that they live decently with our care, love and feedings. Every effort is being made through the TNR program to help these animals. Medical attention is also provided as needed with the cost of care shouldered by caring community members. We are all God's creatures and deserve a decent life. We ask the County to support our TNR and spay/neuter programs to help in our mission to control animal overpopulation on our island.
