My name is Renee Rabb and I oppose Bill 51 which would criminalize people who feed cats or? county
property. I work with cat rescue, and we must feed cats in order to trap them. After a cat is trapped, we
work to get it spayed or neutered, checked for diseases, vaccinated, microchipped, and socialized
through fostering so that the cat can be adopted into a loving home. This process must begin with
feeding to establish enough trust so that trapping can take place..
I am also a member of the national Sierra Club and the national Audubon Society. I am concerned about
the attacks on preservation of native species and the environment by the Trump administration. We have
very big environmental issues to be worried about and horrified by. Why aren't we focused on fighting
the Trump administration wrecking the environment instead of criminalizing good Samaritans who feed
cats.
A well thought out program of colony management is our county's only hope of meaningful protection of
all animals. This should not be either/or between cats and birds or cats and seals. All of us are here
now, regardless of how or when we got here. Let's find solutions that allow all of the beautiful creatures
who now make their homes in Hawaii to thrive.
Please vote NO on Bill 51. We are better than this.
Mahalo,
Renee Rabb
