Subject: Oppose Bill 51
I'm writing to contest Bill 51, which fines volunteers who are taking care of abandoned cats and kittens.
Volunteers spend a lot of their own time and money caring for these animals. If they are sick, they are
taken to a vet. They make sure the cats are fixed and not continuing to breed. There is no room to take
these cats to shelters on island. There needs to be a plan in place on what to do with the cats before
fining those who genuinely do not what to see animals suffering.
I frequently visit the Maka'eo Walking path at Old A's. Many visitors stop to watch the cat colony's. The
cats generally stay away from those on the path, but look forward to when the feeders arrive. I suggest
going down for a walk on the path and speaking with the multiple caring volunteers any evening of your
choice. Do not punish those who are trying to help! They are not the ones dumping these animals.
Without their care, visitors will be greeted by sick and dying cats. After the current ones die, the
abandonment won't stop. The cycle will continue. Be thankful for those who use their own time and
money to help get them fixed and help with population control.
Please oppose Bill 51 until better plans or facilities are in place to accommodate the unwanted
domesticated animals.
