Council Testimony
Subject:
OPPOSE BILL 51
I strongly oppose Bill 51, criminalizing the feeding of cats on County land. The ONLY way to manage cat populations is
through Trap, Neuter, Return (TNR) and Maintain Programs, which is backed by Science. Many of our island's senior
citizens have been involved in caring for the community cats for many years, and making them criminals for their
humanitarian efforts is unspeakable. Starving the cats is not only INHUMANE, it doesn't work. The cats don't simply
disappear into thin air. Starving cats are like any starving animal...... they search for food anywhere they can get it, they
succumb to sickness and disease, and have more unwanted pregnancies. I strongly encourage our County Council to get
on board with the Program by studying the facts of TNR, and stop harassing little old ladies.
Respectively,
C--)
