COUNTY OF HAWAI`I STATE OF HAWAI`I RESOLUTION NO. 290 25 A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO KAWAIHAE CANOE CLUB, INC., TO ASSIST WITH EXPENSES FOR THE KAWAIHAE CANOE CLUB HALE PIKO. WHEREAS, Kawaihae Canoe Club, Inc., is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to preserve and perpetuate the history, culture, and practices of the Hawaiian outrigger canoe and instilling traditional Hawaiian values (`ike ku`una) not only in the membership of the Kawaihae Canoe Club but also in its members' home communities of South Kohala, North Kohala, and Hamakua; and WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation supports diverse recreation programs while fostering cultural appreciation; and WHEREAS, Kawaihae Canoe Club, Inc., is improving its Hale Piko facility where it regularly hosts community events, including hosting the crew of 1-16kule`a on its recent stop as a part of its Moananuiakea worldwide voyage; and WHEREAS, Kawaihae Canoe Club, Inc., is requesting funds to purchase commercial - grade food tables, which will serve a public purpose by benefiting, improving, or promoting the interests of culture and the arts, as well as the needs of the poor, youth, the aged, and those with physical or emotional disabilities; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI`I that, in accordance with section 2-139(a)(2)(C) of the Hawaii County Code 1983 (2016 Edition, as amended), Contingency Relief funds from Council District 9 are hereby transferred to the Department of Parks and Recreation to provide a grant to Kawaihae Canoe Club, Inc., for the expenses and purposes identified in "Exhibit A," a copy of which is attached hereto and incorporated herein by reference, in the following amount as set forth below:
