I urge you to support Resolution 234-25 (https://records.hawaiicolDty.aov/WebLink/0/doc/I 109706/Pagel.aspx, Refere�ke: (Smm.
377, Introduced by Council Member Villegas) for the cultural heritage, environmental, health and safety reasons other
community members are amplifying.
For an additional reason I'll briefly highlight below, we must request the military to cease all bombing at the Pohakuloa Training Area
and reject land swaps and lease renewals with the military:
Trump's regime issued executive orders requiring our military to follow under ICE's direction to carry out immigration enforcement.
The regime also issued an executive order mandating the military arrest domestic citizen criminals. Also, the 7/4 law requires the
Department of Defense to spend $5 billion to erect prisons for immigrants (and others) on its properties. ICE recently occupied the
Marine base on Oahu providing "protection" to the Marines. And ICE transferred those it's kidnapped to its own ICE prison on Oahu
and to a domestic criminal prison on Oahu. The regime ordered the military to occupy - so far - 1/3 of our southern border area to
carry out immigration enforcement. The regime orders our national guards to accompany ICE on its kidnapping raids in CA. The Secy
of Defense ordered Marines to occupy Downtown LA for at least another month; he left open the possibility that this occupation could
continue indefinitely. The 7/4 law triples the budget for enforcement activities by ICE and CBP and quadruples ICE's prison building
budget.
All of these developments show that the regime is consolidating the military under the control of its "tip of the spear" oppression
forces, ICE and CBP. This means that any military presence on our Big Island could become an ICE enforcement facility from which
lawless, brutal raids emanate AND a cruel, abusive prison facility into which our people are kidnapped and disappeared. We must do
all we can to minimize Pohakuloa's utility to the military and to reduce the footprint and power of the military on our island. Either
with ICE/CBP and/or through the military alone, Pohakuloa could become the seat of offensive actions far more dangerous to us than
it has been thus far.
