Aloha Chair Inaba and Council Members,
My name is Tanya Yamanaka Aynessazian and I strongly support Resolution 234-25.
When we talk about military live -fire training at Pohakuloa, the conversation is often framed in terms of land
use, national security, or environmental degradation. These are important and sound considerations when
making decisions that impact the future of our island community, our collective human existence and our
conscious evolution for the benefit of our descendants. But there's a deeper layer —the direct impact on human
health and energy, and community coherence.
Science has now confirmed what Indigenous peoples have always intrinsically known: our human heart is -not
just a pump —it's an intelligence system. The heart generates an electromagnetic field up to 5,000 times
stronger than the brain's magnetic field. This field regulates not only individual health but also influences our
emotional resilience, immune function, and even social harmony. I think of this field as the space between us
and that which holds us. Our heart also contains its own complex nervous system, sometimes referred to as
our "heart brain." Our heart -brain is composed of around 40,000 neurons that function independently from the
central nervous system.
The land and the people are connected through these fields.
When the lands at Pohakuloa are subjected to bombing, live -fire exercises, and contamination with heavy
metals and depleted uranium, the resulting stress is not just ecological —it's physiological and emotional.
The constant threat of environmental degradation and cultural desecration creates a chronic fight -or -flight state
in the nervous system —especially for those of us in dynamic ancestral, spiritual, or daily relationship with this
land. This has been linked to higher rates of anxiety, cardiovascular stress, immune suppression, and
collective trauma.
We cannot separate the health of Hawaii Island residents from the health of the land.
Resolution 234-25 is a necessary step toward protecting both. It calls for accountability, for a clean-up of the
contamination, and for the prioritization of community safety over militarization and the continuous creation of
more trauma.
Ultimately, this is about coherence —between people, our, my, and your, sense of place, and public policy and
intention.
The strongest electromagnetic force in the human body is the heart, and our hearts are in direct relationship
with the land. If we continue to allow Pohakuloa to be treated as a sacrifice zone, we sacrifice not just land, but
human health, cultural dignity, and the long-term coherence of Hawaii Island. Resolution 234-25 is a step
toward restoring that balance.
Mahalo.
