Council Testimony
Subject:
OPPOSE BILL 51
Attn: COUNTY COUNCIL
Hawaiian native species migrated to these islands overtime. Even the Nene, which is considered to be
indigenous migrated from Canada. If we apply the premise that one life is more valuable than another we
are treading in very dangerous waters. Humans are also an invasive species and continue to cause
unprecedented destruction on this planet. The primary issue that has increased cat populations on the
Big Island is related to humans abandoning animals. These animals should not suffer further because
humans are incapable of taking responsibility & developing functional solutions. To think you have the
right to judge whether something is fed and cared for not is an arrogant & presumptuous platform. There
are programs & organizations already advocating to resolve these issues. These programs require greater
county support not punishment. When cats are fed a trust is established and humane protocols can be
implemented to mitigate the cat population issue.
