During my first year of law school I learned that we cannot legislate morality. Regardless of the existence of aws, le
will violate them, often with devastating consequences. --
Conversely, we cannot legislate immorality. Our laws must never force immorality by punishing right conduct, like the
humane treatment of animals.
Bill 51 is immoral.
An army of people want to help feral cats. However, this bill seeks to annihilate their concern, without proposing
realistic, aloha -inspired alternatives, or funding the bill's enforcement —which is rich given that people are volunteering
their time and money to help.
This is mindful of the Georgia law prohibiting the giving of a drink of water to voters wilting under the heat as they wait
in line to vote.
While these immoral laws and proposals are the current fashion, they steer us from our humanity and must be voted out
of existence.
This is one of the stupidest bills I've ever seen, including the rubbish coming out of the US Congress recently.
Do your jobs much, much better. Find solutions based on other successful models already improving the lives of cats
here and on the mainland.
You can do much, much better by encouraging humane acts of compassion and harnessing the power of the
compassionate Hui.
