RE: We support funding an Ambulance Service in Volcano
Dear Council Members and Senator Levin:
This letter comes from the Government Affairs Committee of the Hawaii Island Chamber
of Commerce ("Chamber"), the 102-year-old organization consisting of over 400 members
representing businesses on the largest island in the State.
Historically the Chamber was comprised of and led by the largest businesses on the
island. However, today we find that we are much more "grass roots" organization. Of our 400
plus business members, approximately 80% of these businesses employ less than 20 employees.
Moreover, we represent virtually the entire private sector that provides jobs for the 80% of the
working (and voting) population who do not work for the state and county governments.
We support funding, or cooperating in the funding of a full time ambulance service
in the Volcano area. The Volcano area, including the National Park, is an important
residential area and tourist destination in our county. We need to address the needs of this
community.
Very truly yours,
THE HAWAII ISLA HAMBER OF COMMERCE
