Subject: Support for Bill 38
Aloha Hawaii County Councilmembers,
I live on a gravel road in a small subdivision in lower Puna by Four Corners. You have a chance to make a solid difference
to homeowners like me who live on roads that are in very poor condition because they are not maintained by the
County. Please support Bill 38 along with Communication 203.5 which amends Draft 1 of the bill to lower the minimum
amount of road maintenance fees to $75 eligible for a
deduction on my property tax. My neighbors and I, many of whom are
kupuna who have lived on the road for decades, try our best to fill potholes with buckets of gravel or pool our funds
every year or two to get a truck load and hire a backhoe to spread it. Many of us live on fixed incomes and have very
limited financial resources. This bill would make a concrete difference to me and my neighbors who pay hundreds of
dollars a year to have a passable road. By offering a deduction on property tax bills, more people would donate and we
could make our road that much better. We see all the expensive projects going on in Kona and Hilo and would appreciate
anything that would make our lives better in lower Puna. Please pass Bill 38 and make it effective as soon as possible.
Mahalo for listening,
CD
