Aloha Chair Kimball and Esteemed Council Members,
I write in strong support of Resolution 247-25, which would allocate $10,000 in contingency relief funds
to Feed Hawaii, doing business as the Kohala Food Hub, for its North Kohala Farm to Family Project.
This project embodies the best of what local governance can and should support: food security,
economic resilience, community health, and `aina-based sustainability. The Kohala Food Hub has
proven itself to be a trusted and effective bridge between small local farmers and the families who need
access to fresh, affordable, healthy food. This resolution directly uplifts that work.
In an era when Hawaii imports nearly 90% of its food, initiatives like the Kohala Food Hub are not
luxuries —they are necessities. By supporting this program, you are investing in farmers, families, and
future generations. You are helping to grow the local food economy, reduce food insecurity, and
strengthen Kohala's resilience in the face of rising costs and climate disruption.
I urge each of you to pass Resolution 247-25 and continue showing your commitment to community -
driven solutions that nourish both people and the land.
