WHEREAS, The 12 Step Ohana Club of Kona, Inc., is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that is a place of Aloha, connection, and recovery where all in our recovery ohana are safe and welcome; and WHEREAS, The 12 Step Ohana Club of Kona, Inc., is requesting funds for expenses relating to cleaning and paper products, landscape tools and supplies, and interior furnishings, which will serve a public purpose by benefiting, improving, or promoting the interests of public health and welfare of the people and the environment; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI`I that, in accordance with section 2-139(a)(2)(C) of the Hawaii County Code 1983 (2016 Edition, as amended), Contingency Relief funds from Council District 7 are hereby transferred to the Department of Liquor Control to provide a grant to The 12 Step Ohana Club of Kona, Inc., for the expenses and purposes identified in "Exhibit A," a copy of which is attached hereto and incorporated herein by reference, in the following amount as set forth below: FUND: General AMOUNT OF APPROPRIATION: $300 OUT AND FROM: 1010-11-10191 Clerk -Council SVC —Contingency Relief $300 CREDITED TO: 1010-21-25139 Department of Liquor Control $3!POOO Public Programs 530115 Misc. The 12 Step Ohana Club of Kona, located in the heart of Kailua-Kona, seeks to maximize its impact on individuals seeking recovery from addictions by offering a facility that hosts recovery meetings, accommodates sober activities, and supports Big Island Drug Court clients with opportunities for social interaction and community service. The Club currently provides a safe, sober gathering space for over 25 recovery meetings each week, including Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, AI Anon, Overeaters Anonymous, and other 12-step groups. Meetings are open to the public and serve both newcomers and long-term members of the recovery community, helping to reduce the isolation that often hinders recovery. This request focuses on facility improvements and essential upkeep to ensure the Club remains safe, welcoming, and functional. Requested funds will provide new interior furnishings tables and seating to replace deteriorated items and better accommodate recovery meetings and events as well as cleaning and paper products to support daily use of the facility. In addition, landscape tools and supplies will be purchased to maintain the exterior grounds on a scheduled basis, ensuring the property remains a clean and inviting environment for members and visitors. In addition to facilitating recovery through sober interactions and activities, the Club intends to increase its revenue and long-term sustainability by generating additional rental income from special events and wellness providers who use the facility. * 53. 501(c)(3) Mission Statement We are a place of Aloha, connection, and recovery where all in our recovery ohana are safe and welcome. * 54. As the nonprofit responsible for managing the space, the Club ensures it remains a welcoming home for the recovery community, hosting a diverse schedule of 12-step meetings and sober activities that directly align with our mission. The board and a dedicated team of volunteers will oversee every aspect of the project. * 55. The 12 Step Ohana Club aims to achieve the following measurable outcomes with the requested funds: Upon completion of the interior facility segmentation, the Club will obtain and place new tables and chairs to accommodate events and meetings, providing seating and table space for a minimum of 70 people. The Club will increase monthly recovery meetings and wellness offerings by 10, from 65 to 75, and increase sober events per month by 4, from 6 to 10. In addition, a planned maintenance schedule for both the facility interior and exterior will be initiated, including regular cleaning, landscape upkeep, and review by the board member responsible for facility maintenance.
