WHEREAS, The 12 Step Ohana Club of Kona, Inc., is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to be a place of aloha, connection, and recovery where everyone . in our recovery Ohana is safe and welcome; and WHEREAS, The 12 Step Ohana Club of Kona, Inc., is requesting funds to assist with refreshments, including food and beverages for recovery meetings and sober events, ensuring that those in early recovery who cannot easily afford them are still able to engage fully, and to purchase recovery literature, such as Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, and Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions, with free copies available for individuals who are unable to afford them, which will serve a public purpose by benefiting, improving, or promoting the interests of culture and the arts, needs of the poor, youth, the aged, those with physical or emotional disabilities, public health and welfare of the people and the environment, and victims of health or social crises; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI`I that, in accordance with section 2-139(a)(2)(C) of the Hawaii County Code 1983 (2016 Edition, as amended), Contingency Relief funds from Council District 8 are hereby transferred to the Department of Liquor Control to provide a grant to The 12 Step Ohana Club of Kona, Inc., for the expenses and purposes identified in "Exhibit A," a copy of which is attached hereto and incorporated herein by reference, in the following amount as set forth below: FUND: General AMOUNT OF APPROPRIATION: $3,000 OUT AND FROM: 1010-11-10191 Clerk -Council SVC — Contingency Relief $3,000 CREDITED TO: 1010-21-25139 Department of Liquor Control $3,000 Public Programs 530115 Misc. The 12 Step Ohana Club of Kona, located in the heart of Kailua-Kona,, seeks to maximize its impact on individuals seeking recovery from addictions by offering a facility that hosts recovery meetings, accommodates sober activities,, and supports Big Island Drug Court clients with opportunities for social interaction and community service. The Club currently provides a safe, sober gathering space for over 25 recovery meetings each week,, including Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous,, Al -Anon., Overeaters Anonymous,, and other 12-step groups. Meetings are open to the public and serve both newcomers and long-term members of the recovery community, helping to reduce the isolation that often hinders recovery. This request focuses on direct participant support by removing barriers to recovery and participation. Requested funds will provide refreshments,, including food and beverages, for recovery meetings and sober events, ensuring that those in early recovery who cannot easily afford them are still able to engage fully. In addition, funds will support recovery literature, such as Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous Big Books and 12 Steps and 12 Traditions,, with free copies available for individuals who cannot purchase them on their own.
