COUNTY OF HAWAI`I <br />STATE OF HAWAII <br />RESOLUTION NO. 3G2 25 <br />A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br />AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br />DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO `O KA`fT KAKOU FOR <br />THE 2ND ANNUAL KALO FESTIVAL, KANIWALA KALO 0 KA`U. <br />WHEREAS, `O Ka`u Kakou (OKK) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that sponsors <br />and supports community activities in the district of Ka`u that enhance the quality of life for keiki, <br />kupuna, and all residents of the Ka`u district; and <br />WHEREAS, OKK promotes a healthy Ka`u community through education and culture, <br />and proudly sponsors the 2nd annual Kalo Festival, Kaniwala Kalo O Ka`u, a free, public event <br />where participants can immerse themselves in all things kalo, including its history, cultural <br />significance, cultivation, and poi -pounding and tasting; and <br />WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation provides and/or facilitates services <br />and opportunities that meet the needs of the Big Island community while maintaining the cultural <br />uniqueness of our rich heritage; and <br />WHEREAS, OKK is requesting funds to help cover the cost of radio and print <br />advertisements, live event broadcasting, sound equipment rental and operator fees, sign, banner, <br />and sticker printing, taro corms, and keiki face painting supplies for the festival on December 13, <br />2025, at the Robert N. Herkes Gymnasium in Ka`u, which will serve a public purpose benefiting, <br />improving, or promoting culture and the arts, educational concerns, the needs of the poor, youth, <br />the aged, those with physical or emotional disabilities, and the public health and welfare of the <br />people and the environment; now, therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI`I that, in <br />accordance with section 2-139(a)(2)(C) of the Hawaii County Code 1983 (2016 Edition, as <br />amended), Contingency Relief funds from Council District 6 are hereby transferred to the <br />Department of Parks and Recreation to provide a grant to `O Ka`u Kakou for the expenses and <br />purposes identified in "Exhibit A," a copy of which is attached hereto and incorporated herein by <br />reference, in the following amount as set forth below: <br />
