HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 362 Draft 01 2024-2026 A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO ʻO KAʻŪ KĀKOU FOR THE 2ND ANNUAL KALO FESTIVAL, KĀNIWALA KALO O KAʻŪ. WHEREAS, ʻO Kaʻū Kākou (OKK) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that sponsors and supports community activities in the district of Kaʻū that enhance the quality of life for keiki, kupuna, and all residents of the Kaʻū district; and WHEREAS, OKK promotes a healthy Kaʻū community through education and culture, and proudly sponsors the 2nd annual Kalo Festival, Kāniwala Kalo O Kaʻū, a free, public event where participants can immerse themselves in all things kalo, including its history, cultural significance, cultivation, and poi-pounding and tasting; and WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation provides and/or facilitates services and opportunities that meet the needs of the Big Island community while maintaining the cultural uniqueness of our rich heritage; and WHEREAS, OKK is requesting funds to help cover the cost of radio and print advertisements, live event broadcasting, sound equipment rental and operator fees, sign, banner, and sticker printing, taro corms, and keiki face painting supplies for the festival on December 13, 2025, at the Robert N. Herkes Gymnasium in Kaʻū, which will serve a public purpose benefiting, improving, or promoting culture and the arts, educational concerns, the needs of the poor, youth, the aged, those with physical or emotional disabilities, and the public health and welfare of the people and the environment; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAI‘I that, in accordance with section 2-139(a)(2)(C) of the Hawaiʻi County Code 1983 (2016 Edition, as amended), Contingency Relief funds from Council District 6 are hereby transferred to the Department of Parks and Recreation to provide a grant to ‘O Kaʻū Kākou for the expenses and purposes identified in “Exhibit A,” a copy of which is attached hereto and incorporated herein by reference, in the following amount as set forth below: FUND: General       AMOUNT OF APPROPRIATION:  $5,253       OUT AND FROM:    1010-11-10191 Clerk-Council SVC – Contingency Relief $5,253      CREDITED TO:    1010-51-50302 Department of Parks and Recreation $5,253   P&R Admin OCE    530115 Misc.
