My name is Nanea Lo, and I am writing in strong support of ensuring climate resilience is upl-ld

core value in the Hawaii County General Plan- Climate Change Chapter.
Our islands are on the frontlines of the climate crisis. Sea level rise, extreme weather, coastal erosion,
and biodiversity loss are no longer future concerns they are here and impacting our communities today.
Hawaii County must take bold, proactive steps to prepare and protect our lands, waters, and people.
Incorporating climate resilience into the General Plan will help ensure that reckless development does
not undermine the long-term health and safety of our communities. Development without climate
foresight will only exacerbate risks, increase costs for taxpayers, and threaten the wellbeing of future
generations. By embedding climate resilience as a guiding principle, the County can prioritize smart,
sustainable growth that aligns with ecological balance, community needs, and cultural values.
1 urge the Council to adopt policies that block harmful development projects, center climate resilience in
decision making, and safeguard the resources that our keiki and mo'opuna will depend upon.
We cannot afford to take a piecemeal approach our planning must be visionary, precautionary, and
rooted in aloha'aina.
