Its comprehensive approach, particularly to climate action, sustainability, and invasive species mitigation, is critical for safeguarding our island's future. We are already experiencing the impacts of climate change, from coastal erosion and sea -level rise to wildfires that threaten public safety, water sources, and our economy. This Plan provides the necessary framework for a resilient response. I commend the bold goals for climate mitigation, including achieving net -zero emissions for County operations by 2045 and supporting 100% renewable energy. Key strategies like expanding electric vehicle infrastructure, enhancing public transit, and increasing renewable energy sources are essential. The Plan's focus on invasive species mitigation is another critical priority. I strongly support the outlined policies and want to emphasize that their success depends on robust support for on -the -ground partners. Programs like the Big Island Invasive Species Committee (BIISC) are absolutely crucial. Their expertise in public education, early detection, rapid response, and control of established invaders is irreplaceable. Ensuringthey have the resources and County support to manage both emerging and established threats is essential for protecting our native ecosystems, water and agricultural security, and community health and safety. Rooted in Collaborative Biocultural Stewardship, the Plan wisely integrates cultural and natural resource management. Its balanced approach to smart growth, regenerative agriculture, and preserving our natural and cultural heritage provides a sustainable path forward. This Plan is the result of extensive community engagement and thoughtful deliberation. I strongly urge you to adopt the Hawai'i County General Plan 2045 and commit to funding its implementation, including support for vital partners like BIISC. Ourfuture depends on the decisive action you take today. Mahalo foryour service and consideration. Sincerely, Chuck Chimera Honoka'a Z I2 r Comm. ref. To:_•. t Ref. Date EF 1 7 2025
