Beneath this area lies a major aquifer that supplies fresh water to Hawaii Island, and the military's track record shows they are not equipped to protect it.There is also serious concern about depleted uranium left in the soil, which can become airborne during exercises and has known health risks. P6hakuloa is a wahi pana- a sacred place with deep cultural and ecological significance. With the end of the 65-year military lease at P6hakuloa, you have the ability to mend an issue created by those who came before you. You have the choice to allow the `aina to heal, to steward and protect our most sacred mountain, or to repeat and renew the mistakes of your predecessors, against all wishes of our kupuna and community. Continued military use is incompatible with the Mauna's conservation status and the values of aloha `aina. Please support this resolution. to protect the land, water, and people of Hawaii. 0 C-, c c-> Mahalo, m c- J CO O Asia Helfrich C Educator in Hilo, HI r•• ze:;O v
