Subject: Support Resolution 234-25
Aloha, Chair Villages and Policy Committee Members,
I am writing in strong support of resolution 234-25 because what happens to our'aina greatly affects me
and my pilina to my kupuna. I believe that a resolution, an official stance on the activities at Pohakuloa is
necessary to convey the significance of the harm being inflicted on our'aina. I know that the jurisdiction
of the county is limited in some respects, but to have the support of the council is imperative here to
represent our island's residents' interests.
As someone genealogically tied to the land on Hawaii Island and as someone actively engaged in efforts
to protect sacred spaces, I reaffirm the importance of Pohakuloa and the slopes of Mauna Kea. The
impacts to'aina have real effects on kanaka 'oiwi and kama'aina alike. The army (and all branches of the
armed services) have demonstrated a poor commitment to their responsibilities to steward our lands as,
time and time again, dangerous remnants of harmful activities they perform are left behind.

Passing this resolution is a commitment that the council can take to stand with all of us who call Hawai'i
Island home. Thank you for considering my testimony.
