I am a tax paying property owner on the Big Island and am deeply concerned about the US Military training activities that threaten Pohakuloa, a sacred place with deep cultural and ecological significance. US Military training at Pohakuloa has already caused serious harm -burning nearly 20,000 acres, contaminating the land, and threatening endangered species. Beneath this area lies a major aquifer that supplies fresh water to Hawaii Island, and the military's track record shows they are not equipped to protect it.T'here is also serious concern about depleted uranium left in the soil, which can become airborne during exercises and has known health risks.Continued military use is incompatible with Pohakuloa conservation status and the values of aloha `dina. Please support this resolution to protect the land, water, and people of Hawaii.y on Sincerely -- Amelia (Mimi) Pickering c z CD c i_ CO CD n c-; :-P- ZZ:r Mimi Pickering 14 Church Street 0 Whitesburg, KY 41858 0' 606-335-2610 Comm. o Ref.
