Aloha Committee Members,
I am writing in strong support of Resolution 234-25.
The U.S. military's training activities at Pohakuloa have already caused irreversible damage to this sacred and
ecologically vital area. Pohakuloa is a wahi pana — a sacred place with deep cultural and environmental significance.
Continued bombing and military use pose catastrophic risks, especially as the area sits atop a critical aquifer that supplies
water to communities across Hawaii Island.
Military training has already burned nearly 20,000 acres, threatened endangered species, and raised serious concerns
about contamination from depleted uranium. The continued poisoning of Pohakuloa will cause long-term harm and
destruction —putting both the health and vitality of our people and '5ina at risk.
In addition, this desecration harms our past; bombing has destroyed thousands of acres of culturally significant sites,
artifacts and overall history.
The choice before us is clear.
Continued military use is incompatible with the conservation of this place, the values of aloha 'oina, and the well-being of
communities across the island. I strongly urge you to support this resolution and protect Pohakuloa for the future of
Hawaii - for the land, the water, and the generations yet to come.
